One Mother's Mission.

Link From MSNBC/Newsweek.

Tina Richards, mother of Marine Cpl Cloy Richards, has been in Washington DC walking the halls of congress. Last week she became the latest internet face for the Anti-War movement when a discussion with Rep. David Obey (D-Wisconsin Voting Record) was caught on film.

The discussion devolved into an argument. I find that curious because both parties involved want the same thing, they just don't agree on how to achieve that goal. In the wake of this incident Obey issued this statement.

One of the things I believe is being overlooked in the coverage of this confrontation is Marine Cpl. Cloy Richards. Why, in the light of obvious combat related injuries and mental issues are the Marines redeploying this man? How many others in similar situations are being redeployed? Is this how we're getting the extra troops for the Surge?

One thing is for sure, the battle to end the war is eclipsing other important issues and it is my opinion that they should all be addressed. The VA needs to be overhauled, Troops need to be evaluated before they are Redeployed and we should never send a soldier in who cannot do the job because of injuries. Our soldiers are not numbers, they are not robots, they cannot fight indefinitely without suffering cumulative debilitating effects.

We know this war isn't going to be brought to an end tomorrow, in the mean time, while congress is fighting to set a firm date for troop redeployment they also need to be focusing on the welfare of troops still caught in the mix. That goes beyond just funding them, it also means that our Government must see to their care when they come back broken.
